Why Global Infrastructure Matters

Cloud infrastructure is not just about running virtual machines. It is about where and how your workloads run across the world.

Traditional on-premise systems are constrained by a single physical location. If that building fails, your application fails. Cloud infrastructure removes that constraint by distributing compute, storage, and networking across multiple geographic areas.

AWS organizes its global infrastructure into Regions, Availability Zones (AZs), and Edge Locations.

Architecturally, global infrastructure matters because it directly impacts:

  • Availability
  • Fault tolerance
  • Disaster recovery strategy
  • Data sovereignty and compliance

As a cloud architect, you must think in terms of failure domains. AWS global infrastructure is designed to reduce shared failure domains.
